Our Newcastle (Co Down) rally, 4th to 6th Sept, aligned with the town’s ever popular “Eats and Beats” Festival. Our hosts, Norman and Lynette and co hosts Des and Patricia, welcomed 36 units to St Mary’s PS which provided easy access of a 5 minute walk into the town. Units were parked up quickly and safely and all were provided with local information a town map and cover information on the festival and a weekend plan. The spacious school hall was arranged with tables and chairs by the hosts and assisted by willing helpers including Andy and Peter. The evening entertainment kicked off with a lively bingo session with bingo caller Jacqueline (our club secretary). The evening was rounded off with some chat and craic, with background music provided by Billy. Saturday saw the beginning of the 2 day Eats and Beats Festival with most of our members attending to sample incredible culinary flavours for your senses and an unforgettable eclectic mix of music on 2 stages from local and international artists. Returning for a short rest, members gathered in the hall for the evening entertainment, music was proved by Paul Raff with dancing to midnight. The mid evening break allowed for a raffle of items (lots of wine!!) and our hosts laid on some welcomed sandwiches (special thanks goes to Billy for all his help). Sunday morning saw members gather for some tea/coffee and biscuits provided by the committee and assisted by members.Sam, our chairman, welcomed new members Philip and Hannah (with children George and Ivy); Alan and Karen were awarded a free weekend voucher for reaching 40 points; the registration draws were won by Rita and Ramanus, and Anne and Marcus. Sam bade everyone farewell and safe journey home, and after the hall was cleared and tidied, the rally closed.
